It certainly seems that something in the past handful of days (on the 04/10/2012 updates?) is causing IE9 to not be detected correctly.

Opted to install updates online as suggested by Setup the chose upgrade keeping files and applications (not a clean install). I have installed three VMs and all are having this problem. Should there be any, it will ask for the Win 7 (or whatever Windows) CD to copy over original files.

You can uninstall it and reinstall it with no errors, through microsoft update, but the same thing comes around again, Microsoft Update never recognizes that IE9 is already installed, and keeps I think I'm able to recover data since I can access the SSD but I don't know how much is viable and corrupted at this point.
